Responsibilities

Position Summary:

  • The Senior Legal Counsel will provide high-level legal advice and support to senior management and business units, ensuring the organization’s operations comply with applicable laws and regulations. The role requires a proactive, commercially-minded legal professional capable of managing complex corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal advice and guidance to senior management and business units on corporate, commercial, regulatory, and compliance matters.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, contracts, and corporate documents.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, regulatory, and governance requirements in Malaysia and relevant jurisdictions.
  • Manage and oversee disputes, litigation, and other legal proceedings involving the organization.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic investments, including conducting legal due diligence, structuring and negotiate deals and transaction and manage issues and execution.
  • Advise on applicable laws and handles related matters including intellectual property, employment law, anti-bribery compliance, data protection where applicable.
  • Develop, implement and monitor organization-wide legal policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Liaise and coordinate with external legal counsel, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Guide, support and manage the legal team members to build internal capabilities.
Requirements

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent; admission to the Malaysian Bar is required.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of post-qualification experience in corporate/commercial law, preferably in-house or at a reputable law firm.
  • Proven experience in handling corporate, commercial, regulatory, and dispute resolution matters.
  • Strong understanding of Malaysian legal and regulatory framework, with exposure to cross-border transactions being an advantage.
  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Commercially minded, with the ability to provide pragmatic and actionable legal advice with diverse industries exposures.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in managing external counsel and legal budgets
