This role provides an excellent platform for a legal professional seeking broader exposure beyond traditional legal practice, with opportunities to work closely with senior leadership and develop expertise in Group Legal, Compliance, Governance, and Financial Services Regulation.
Responsibilities:
- Independently manage a wide range of legal matters, including day-to-day operational legal work, corporate exercises, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance matters.
- Review, negotiate, and advise on contracts, identifying legal risks and recommending appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Provide practical legal advice and analysis to internal stakeholders, including business units and subsidiaries, on legal risks affecting transactions and business initiatives.
- Support the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer in overseeing Group Legal matters across financial services, corporate and commercial, intellectual property, information technology, and regulatory areas.
- Liaise and manage relationships with external legal counsel, regulators, authorities, and other external stakeholders on matters affecting the Group.
- Assist in improving the efficiency of the Group Legal function through process enhancement, digitalisation initiatives, and implementation of best practices.
- Develop, review, and implement Legal and Compliance policies across the Group.
- Provide legal and compliance training to management and employees on key risk areas.
- Advise business and compliance functions on regulatory requirements, including applicable requirements from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Securities Commission Malaysia (SC), Bursa Malaysia, and other relevant legislation.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of anti-bribery and corruption, personal data protection, and governance requirements.
- Drive compliance culture-building initiatives and facilitate alignment of compliance practices across Group companies.
- Conduct compliance monitoring activities, including compliance risk assessments, gap analysis, and compliance reviews.
- Prepare reports and materials for management and board committee meetings, and participate in discussions alongside the General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer.
- Provide oversight support on material compliance issues, regulatory developments, and risk matters affecting the Group and its subsidiaries.
- Collaborate with Group Legal, Compliance, Internal Audit, Risk Management, and other control functions on governance, policies, reporting, and risk management matters.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Law and admitted as a qualified lawyer in Malaysia.
- Min 9 years of legal experience gained from private practice and/or in-house environments.
- Experience in financial services, corporate and commercial law, compliance, governance, anti-bribery & corruption, regulatory, or technology-related matters will be advantageous.
- Candidates from other legal backgrounds with strong transferable skills are also encouraged to apply.
- Strong interest in developing expertise across Legal, Compliance, and Governance functions at a Group level.
- Mature, responsible, self-driven, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Proactive with strong ownership, commitment, and ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with working-level employees through senior management.
- Well-organised, structured, and process-oriented with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
