Our client is a well-established law firm in Melaka, with a strong presence in the Southern region and a diverse practice covering civil and commercial litigation.

The Role

As a Legal Associate (Litigation), you will work closely with experienced partners and lawyers across a broad range of civil and commercial disputes, with exposure to the full litigation lifecycle from legal research and drafting through hearings, negotiations and trial preparation.

You will progressively be given greater responsibility to manage your own files, engage directly with clients and develop towards independent conduct of matters.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle and assist with civil and commercial litigation matters.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, affidavits, submissions, opinions and other legal documents.
• Assist with interlocutory applications, case managements, hearings and trials.
• Participate in negotiations, settlement discussions and client consultations.
• Assist in the preparation and conduct of trials, including opportunities for co-counsel exposure.
• Manage assigned files, deadlines and client matters effectively.
• Work closely with partners and senior lawyers while progressively taking on greater independence.

Requirements

• Malaysian-qualified Advocate & Solicitor with approximately 1–4 years’ PQE in litigation.
• Solid hands-on experience in civil and/or commercial litigation.
• Strong legal research, drafting, analytical and file management skills.
• Candidates with hearing and trial experience, whether independently or as co-counsel, will have an advantage.
• Good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia.
• Chinese language proficiency is preferred.
• Good client-handling and communication skills.
• Able to work independently while benefiting from partner mentorship.
• Proactive, committed and keen to build a long-term litigation career in Melaka.
