Associate General Counsel

Role Overview

The Associate General Counsel will play a pivotal role in overseeing key areas of legal compliance within the Group of Companies. This senior position involves collaborating with various committees, departments, staffs, officers, c-suite and board of direction to ensure adherence to legal and ethical standard. The role includes developing and supervising compliance initiatives, providing expert legal guidance and mentoring to the junior staffs.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Leads and manage the Group of Companies compliance initiatives, ensuring alignment with the applicable laws.
  2. Develops and implements policies and procedures to support the Group of Companies objectives.
  3. Collaborates with cross functional teams to address complex legal issues and support business goals.
  4. Represents the organization in interactions with the external stakeholder or board members.
  5. Provides training and support to internal teams.
  6. Stays informed of legal developments and advices on potential impacts to the organization.
  7. Oversees the Group of Companies compliance program, ensuring effective implementation.
  8. Lead or oversee the drafting, negotiation and review of complex agreements and board resolutions.
  9. Proactively identify legal risk and develop practical, business aligned mitigation strategies.
  10.  Advise on or support any litigation, arbitration and administrative proceedings including case strategy and oversight external counsel.
  11. Contribute to legal department planning, including goal setting, legal spend management and strategic initiatives.
  12. Support mentoring and knowledge transfer within legal function, including coaching junior staff as needed.
  13. Any ad-hoc matter within the Group of Companies.
  14. Additional duties will be assigned from time to time by the superior as required to meet business needs.

Key Requirements

  1. Bachelor Degree required
  2. Call to the bar.
  3. A minimum of nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in legal compliance, governance and listed, preferably within a large law firm or corporate environment.
  4. A minimum of five (5) years’ experience managing or advising external clients on a law firm including corporate M&A, listing.
  5. Proven ability to manage complex, high stakes matter independently.
  6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate across department.
  7. Sound legal judgment with strategic thinking and will demonstrate strong leadership qualities, ethical integrity and a practical, solution-oriented mindset.
  8. Proficiency in English, Mandarin, and Malay.
